Muslim exodus from Bali, to celebrate Eid-ul Fitri on Java | Demotix.com.

Talk about extraordinary, we got to Bali and somebody forgot to tell them we were coming, because…THERE”S NOBODY HERE!!

Well, technically speaking. We’ve arrived at the tail end of Ramadan, which is the biggest event on the Muslim calendar. Basically, it’s a fast for 30 days which ends with a big-ass festival called, Eid-ul Fitri. What does that mean for us? It means almost every Javanese on the island has gone home to celebrate Eid-ul Fitri at home. So, nobody’s minding the shop.

That’s right, almost every shop, bank and business in Bali is CLOSED until Sept 5. Well, at least we’ll save money!!
